The game focuses on delivering a more realistic wrestling experience with improved gameplay mechanics, animations, and an expanded MyCareer Mode, where players can create their own wrestler and guide them through a WWE career, including rivalries, matches, and storylines. There’s also the Universe Mode, which lets players control WWE shows, manage rosters, and create storylines.

While WWE 2K17 did not include the 2K Showcase Mode on PS3, the game emphasized player freedom and sandbox-style gameplay, offering endless replayability with its customizable match types and robust creation suite, where players could design arenas, championships, and wrestlers.
